Clams
Only four percent of clams are hermaphrodites. Almost all clams have a partner. The reproductive system in clams is very closely linked with the digestive system. The female clam will release eggs into the open ocean, then the male clam will release sperm to fertilize the eggs. After the fertilization of the egg, cellular division creates larvae, which then grow into clams. The strange part about clams is that they change gender with maturity. They usually start as males and mature into females as they get older; but this is a one-way process, and once they change gender they can’t go back. I think this is the most interesting fact that I learned about clams.
